Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Ummm…did I say the Road to Venice was hard? Well, welcome to the road to Tre Cime de Lavereto. From Cortina D’Ampezzo, we cycled to Misurina, and then took the Superstrada Panoramica which is a 7 km grueling stretch to Refugio Auronzo where you get stunning views of “Tre Cime di Lavaredo”. 565 m of elevation gain over only 7 km. The last 4.4 km where 16% plus. Brutal! Actually, I should say Spiros cycled to the top. I cycled, pushed, hacked, coughed up a lung, shook my fists and swore my way to the top. It’s a different approach, slightly less graceful I’ll admit, but it works for me. ;-)

Like the rest of the Dolomites, this is a very popular cycling route. The Dolomites are as beautiful as they are difficult; a very distinctive looking mountain range. Here are some of the breathtaking views from the day’s ride.

    Aaaagh!!! That place.

I love, love, love Tre Cime. I hoped to be able to climb one some day or at least climb the via ferrata up the Monte Paterno which stands in front of the Refugio di Lavaredo. Lovely place. Fantastic acheivement!
