After cycling through the Czech Republic, we hopped back into Austria and made our way to Linz, which is located on the Danube. From there, we followed the famous Danube cycling trail to Passau, Germany. In all honesty, the first 30km were a bit boring but the scenery vastly improved after that. We basically cycled a forested trail along the river for the majority of the time. The Danube trail stretches from Passau, Germany to Budapest, Hungary. While we only did a small section of it, we can say that the part we did was pretty, excellent cycling roads, with plentiful amenities along the way.
From beautiful Passau, we cycled along the Inn River, mostly on the German side and occasionally popping into Austria. The riding and scenery were very similar to that along the Danube. After two days of riding along the Inn and Salzack rivers, we eventually made our way to Salzburg.
The weather the past couple of days has been…well…not so good; cold and a lot of rain. We’ve been looking and feeling a lot like drowned rats by the time we’ve gotten to our campsite.
Good thing we got so much practice cycling in Vancouver rain.
