Last desert camp tonight. It was a great day; gorgeous scenery, great weather and some really fun off-road cycling. We were even treated to the most incredible sunset; still I can’t sleep. I stayed up a little later then usual, had wine underneath the stars with some of the riders and listened to Randy play the drum. Then, like so many other nights lately, I spent a few hours in my tent replaying the past four months in my mind. Pyramids, camels, tents huddled around a truck in the desert, endless sunflower fields, kids clamoring around us, friendly faces with great big smiles saying “hello” from the side of the road, coke stops, gorgeous sunsets, peaceful sunrises, a ferry piled mile high with Twinkies, Masai helping me with my tire….so many moments that have taken my breath away, so many images flooding my head. My inability to sleep is no doubt a fruitless attempt to prolong this experience, somehow hold on to this incredible journey just a bit longer. Its funny how Egypt feels so long ago, and yet it feels like the tour is ending in a blink of the eye. It’s gone by so fast, way too fast.
