Bikes!!! We have bikes. Awesome, new kick-ass bikes. The day started off a little miserable. Took a peak out the window and it was, shall we say, a little dreary, “pissing” to be exact. We donned the heavy rain gear and headed off to meet Duncan at John Henry Bikes. Today was the day! After I exhaustively researched bicycle options, we knew exactly what we wanted: the Specialized Tricross Comp. |
Almost all of our riding over the last 8 years has been on either race bikes or touring bikes, so we decided that we would be more comfortable on a cyclocross rather than a suspension mountain bike. Specialized makes fantastic bikes and we think that the Tricross is built for an expedition like this. We are ready to put it through the test.
From the minute we contacted Willie from John Henry Bikes and told him about our trip, he was extremely enthusiastic. He had just finished an incredible feat of his own. He was part of an amazing group of riders that cycled across Canada to raise funds for juvenile diabetes. So far they have raised over an outstanding $900,000.00. Really inspiring! To learn more about it go to TeamH2V.
Sometimes you walk into a store and you get a certain feeling. There is just a great atmosphere in this shop. We knew we were dealing with genuinely nice people who were excited for us. We had never purchased bikes from John Henry before, but we were truly blown away from the care, service and expertise we received. We have been fitted for bikes in the past but Duncan brought the bike fitting process to a new level. They fit perfectly! Our expectations were exceeded by a mile.
While sitting and spinning on my awesome new bike, it suddenly hit me…We’re going to Africa! After 4 years of daydreaming, many, many months of preparation, we are actually doing it! When we walked into the store, we were two stressed out individuals with a seemingly never ending to do list. When we left, we were two people about to fulfill a life’s dream.
Thank you Duncan, Willie and all the folks at John Henry Bikes!
