Gone Shopping…Part II

Another weekend, another opportunity to shop for our trip. On Saturday we, once again, set a goal, psyched ourselves up and hit the shopping centers. Unfortunately, this excursion was not as wildly successful as last week’s shopping spree. I can’t even claim we made a valiant effort this time. Within 40 minutes we had, (pinnacles of self discipline that we are), given up and gone for coffee and cake.

We seem to function better under pressure. I predict that on December 26th, you’ll find us running through Vancouver shopping malls, in a crazed panic, throwing random things into a shopping cart. “These lime green polka-dotted shorts should be ok.”…or…”Do you think we will need gift wrapping paper in Africa?” Sigh, it’ll happen. I have the bright orange tie-dye “moo moo” shirt from our last trip to Vietnam to prove it too. (I hate bright orange tie-dye “moo moo” shirts). Let’s just hope that in our mad dash we remember to buy bicycles. Hmmm…maybe I should write that down.

I have to admit though, I was quite happy to just sit with a humongous cup of coffee, an equally humongous slice of cake and quietly read Paul Theroux’s “Dark Star Safari – Overland from Cairo To Cape Town”. I can’t help but wonder what Africa has in store for us.
